A massive gray tom sat on a tree root, waiting for Fawnpaw. His tail flicked back and forth lazily. His blue eyes narrowed as he yawned. Waiting for his apprentice could be tiresome. Graystar leapt from the tree root and landed in the clearing. The GrayClan leader flexed his shoulder muscles and sat down, his tail wrapping around his paws.

A pretty golden she-cat emerged from the shadows of the forest, her pelt glimmering as she sat down, tail curling around her paws. "Good morning, Graystar." she smiled happily, her amber eyes blinking with pleasure. Fawnpaw yawned, her pink tongue curled slowly in and out of her golden maw as she swept it over her whiskers, tasting the freshkill she had finished. "What will we do today?"

Graystar flicked his tail. "Good morning, to you to. Today I thought we'd go around the borders. As we go along, I'll show you how to hunt. Sound good?" the massive tom raised an eyebrow, waiting for Fawnpaw's answer.

"It's fine with me." Fawnpaw purred, her tail twitching as she looked around. "Where should we start?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "I know you'll be the best mentor ever." she smiled at him, her amber eyes sparkling as she stood up, ready to go. Her whsikers quivered as she scented the air.

Graystar grinned down at Fawnpaw. "I don't know about that but I'll do the best I can. Come on, let's head towards the RainClan border." he flicked his tail and bounded away, looking over his shoulder at Fawnpaw.

"Yes, Graystar." she meowed, dipping her head as she bounded after him, her tail swaying behind her. "So, when do you think my first gathering will be?" she asked, shining her amber eyes up at him. "I want to meet some of the other apprentices and warriors. They can't all be as strong as Grayclan." she blinked.

The gray leader purred with amusement. "Right. As of right now, GrayClan has the most cats but we should never underestimate the other Clans. More cats are joining them every day." he thought for a moment. "Your first gathering? I think I'll take you to the next one. Sound good?" he skidded to a stop and looked around. They were just along the RainClan borders. "Tell me what you can smell." he said.

"It's a strange smell, it makes me uncomfortable..I've never smelled it before, but I can tell it is cats, is this what Rainclan smell like?" she asked. "And I'd be delighted to come to the next gathering." she meowed, her ploomy tail sweeping the ground in delight. "And Grayclan is the best clan. We're strong, and brave, and smart." she added, smiling.

"That we are but we must respectful to the other Clans. They might be getting more cats as we speak." the gray leader pricked his ears. "That is RainClan and by the smell of it. Someone is close by."
The RainClan deputy snarled as he saw the two GrayClan cats. "What are you doing so close to our border? Spying? Or hoping someone special was waiting for you? Don't think that I'm not onto you, Graystar." he warned with a snarl.

Fawnpaw's ears twitched. /Waiting for someone special?/ she thought, her whiskers quivering. "Excuse me, Mr. Rainclan, but don't tread on Graystar's tail too much, or we'll get angry." she huffed, her voice calm. "Why would we waste our time spying on you? You're nothing but a bunch of sneezing, cowering fleabrains." she muttered so he wouldn't hear. "Besides, it's my first day as an apprentice of Graylan, and you're ruining it." she frowned.

Graystar rose his head. "Now who would we meet here? If I was meeting someone, why would I bring my apprentice?" he glanced at Fawnpaw. "Now I got to show my apprentice the rest of borders. Good day, Glacierheart." he flicked his tail for Fawnpaw to follow.
Glacierheart glared at the young apprentice. "Be glad you have Graystar beside you." he warned. His cold gaze met with the GrayClan leader's. "Likewise." he stated before turning to head towards his camp.

Fawnpaw blinked. What was that supposed to mean. She shuddered as she began to strut beside Graystar again. "That was Rainclan's deputy? What a fuzzbrain!" she snorted, giggling. "He doesn't scare me one bit."

The large tom saw Fawnpaw shudder but said nothing about it. "Yeah. Glacierheart is all talk but really doesn't go through with his threats. Ok we're coming along the IceClan border. Smell anything?" Graystar frowned as thoughts of Icestar roamed through his head. His whiskers twitched in sadness but remained silent to see what Fawnpaw would say.

The rustle of leaves gives away a small mouse near Fawnpaw. Almost an instant later a massive, but lanky shape bursts out of the scrub and lands on the mouse killing it with a sharp nip to the neck. But the shape was a little too fast and stumbles right into the leader. Rolling back to it's feet the shape is identified as the deputy out for a morning hunt. With a mouthful of mouse tail, the deputy hastily apologizes and disappears into the bushes.

"Now I do." Fawnpaw hissed as the deputy clumsily stumbled into Graystar. "What a furball." she meowed, giggling as he bounded away. The small she-cat yawned, her teeth clamping shut as she pulled her tongue back in.
